Zhuhai's power supply service is the most satisfactory of 21 provincial prefecture-level cities for the 12th consecutive year, according to a 2020 Survey Report on Service-Oriented Government Construction in Guangdong.

Local public services are rated 1st by the Guangdong Provincial Situation Research Center with an overall score of 81.32. The Zhuhai power supply service leads 40 accessed public service items with a score of 84.62.

Statistics from the Zhuhai Power Supply Bureau of China Southern Power Grid show that local electricity consumption increased by 25.14 percent to 4.28 billion kilowatt hours in the first quarter of this year, a solid testament to the city's economic recovery achievements.

Zhuhai was the first city in the country to conduct power stability management, and the city Power Supply Bureau has integrated this requirement throughout power grid planning and construction, system and equipment operation, safe production, and customer services.

As a result, Zhuhai's power supply stability has ranked 1st in the country four times over the past five years, reaching an internationally advanced level. Local power failure duration averaged 57.6 minutes per household in 2015, which dropped to 33 minutes in 2019 and 23.4 minutes in 2020, according to the National Energy Administration.

As part of efforts to improve Zhuhai's business environment, the bureau is providing enterprises with convenient, cost-efficient, and reliable power services, with no administrative approval, bothersome procedures, or investment entailed.

For instance, it took only 18 working days for Guangdong Gaojing Solar Energy Science & Technology in Jinwan District to arrange for installation of an 800-kilovolt-ampere temporary box-type substation at its operations – more than 37 percent quicker than usual.

In addition, the bureau has a power grid structure capable of directly lowering voltage from 220 to 20 kV in Hengqin New Area, which will be built into a demonstration zone for highly reliable power supply. Innovative wiring and supply network protection modes can restore power in milliseconds after a failure, without users even realizing it.

Since Feb 1, 2020, Zhuhai has offered a 5 percent price discount on electricity during certain periods, which saved 442 million yuan ($68 million) for more than 70,000 industrial and commercial customers by the end of last year.

Currently, the city has more than 70 transformer substations, of which two are 500 kV and 18 are 220 kV. 

Next, power will be supplied to downtown areas and Macao relying on cables and indoor substations. The Wangyang and Hongwan power plants will operate independently to ensure a quick recovery in case of disasters.
