Third tower raised as elements batter Jinhai Ave Bridge
The third of four steel towers for the Jinhai Avenue Bridge over the Modaomen Waterway was erected as boat traffic was controlled for 60 hours Aug 25, 26, and 27 to ensure the safety of large crane vessels dealing with strong winds and high waves.
Since March, three steel towers have been installed for the four-tower cable-stayed bridge of the Modaomen Waterway section, and three more steel towers and steel box girders are pending for the entire span.

The Vessel Traffic Management Center of the Zhuhai Maritime Safety Bureau broadcast a warning in advance and dispatched eight law enforcement staff, 18 auxiliary staff, and 10 vessels to disperse traffic.
The first highway-railway structure in the Pearl River estuary, the Jinhai Avenue Bridge is 11.2 km (7 miles) long from the Jingwan Tunnel on southern Hengqin Island to the Sanzao Tunnel beneath East Airport Road (S727) in Jinwan District. The designated speed is 100 kmph (62 mph) for the six-lane highway and 160 kmph (99.5 mph) for the center double-track railway.
The bridge will form part of Airport Urban Rail Transit Phase II and cut travel time between Jinwan and Hengqin to 10-15 minutes. Motorists will reach Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport from Gongbei in 25 minutes.
