10 million have sped through new Hengqin Checkpoint
The new Hengqin Checkpoint recorded its 10-millionth pedestrian crossing on Dec 24, a year and a quarter since opening in August 2020, and each of them was in line only about half a minute.
A bridgehead of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone on Hengqin Island, the checkpoint has accelerated exchanges between the Chinese mainland and Macao. Facilitating this is the "Joint Inspection & One-time Release" mode in which travelers queue and have documents examined only once, cutting customs clearance to 30 seconds.
With normalization of pandemic prevention and control, the daily exit-entry quota of Macao single-plate vehicles increased to 10,000 after the validity period was extended to one year in March. Total vehicle volume has reached 1.3 million with 4,000 daily exits and entries. The average daily exit-entry number of Macao single-plate vehicles exceeds 2,000 and the maximum recorded is 2,500.
Further convenient clearance services are planned by the checkpoint to boost rapid development of Hengqin and the integrated development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
