Zhuhai has adopted strict COVID-19 prevention and control measures in response to the increase in confirmed cases in the city. Dynamic regulations will also be adjusted according to the latest epidemic situation.

The city has launched a three-day compulsory mass nucleic acid testing campaign from Jan 16 to 18. Citizens are also advised to avoid going out or gathering, wear masks in public areas, adopt "social distancing" practice, and take preventive measures.

Citywide scenic areas are now temporarily closed and dine-in services are banned in Xiangzhou District. Restaurants in other districts are required to provide separate dining boxes and offer serving chopsticks and spoons.

The number of people permitted to sit at one dining table has been cut in half, with people having to keep a minimum one-meter (1.1-yd) distance from each other. In addition, at least one person among a group of diners must register their identity and contact information.

In addition, Hong Kong-Zhuhai Airport Management is carrying out regular disinfection of public areas in Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport, especially for object surfaces with high-frequency contact, shuttle buses, and passenger gathering areas. The number of seats in the airport's dining area has been cut, while partition boards have been set up at tables.

The disinfection frequency for the COVID-19 testing areas of arrivals has been increased from every four hours to every two hours.

The number of flights on Jan 16 has been decreased by 55 percent compared with its previous schedule due to the rising COVID-19 cases in Zhuhai. Consultation service counters have been set up outside the terminal to help passengers with ticket changes and refunds.

Authorized information and anti-COVID-19 pandemic guidance are being released by the airport on various official channels, such as WeChat, Sina Weibo, and its official website.

As of 9 pm on Jan 17, Zhuhai has reported 15 COVID-19 positive cases with infection of Omicron variant, including 14 confirmed and one asymptomatic. A 14-day lockdown was imposed Saturday on Guangsheng Village and a seven-day lockdown for the entire Nanping Town in Xiangzhou District.
