Jitimen Bridge resumes partial operation after emergency repair
Three new lanes on the southern part of Jitimen Bridge resumed operation Jan 24 for dual east-west traffic, one month ahead of schedule after an emergency repair project commenced in July 2021. The northern part of the bridge is now closed for construction until June.
Turning points at both ends of the bridge are now located at Zhuhai Avenue-Middle Chuangye Road intersection and Zhuhai Sunbird Yacht Bus Stop in Jinwan District. Motorists are advised to follow the on-site instructions or detour to the Western Coastal Expressway during peak times.

The bridge, having been in service for 29 years, is an east-west passage connecting the Hongqi and Pingsha section of Zhuhai Avenue. During an inspection made in mid-2021, reinforcement fractures and through-wall cracks were found on the box girder plates of its southern half, which posed serious security risks.
The emergency repair project also included high-viscosity asphalt paving, which is thinner and more wear-resisting, to bring a more comfortable riding experience for motorists.
Crash barriers were installed to provide extra protection for drivers and the bridge in case of accidents. The sidewalks are paved with color ceramic particles, adhering to the standards of newly-built pedestrian overpasses in downtown Zhuhai.
