Section II of the renovated South Lovers Avenue at the Changsheng Road-Nanwan Avenue intersection garnered the 2020-2021 National Quality Engineering Award recently.

The entire renovation involved the southern section of Lovers Avenue from Gongbei Checkpoint to Hengqin Bridge. It connects Wanzai Checkpoint, the Jinqin Express Line, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge link line, and rail transit stations. The project was divided into three sections and opened to traffic in September 2020, according to the contractor Zhuhai Lovers Coast Construction.

Construction of Section II included two reconstructed roads, one new road, two new bridges, three underpass tunnels, and three pedestrian tunnels. The project team overcame difficulties of complex interchanges, heavy traffic flow, and complicated underground pipelines. New construction technologies were also applied to ensure its high quality.

Traffic congestion at the intersection of Changsheng Road and Nanwan Avenue has been greatly relieved by the new compound horn-shaped interchange, tunnels, as well as roads and bridges above the tunnel. The roads along the line have become a fast-track channel between the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and downtown Zhuhai.
