The Guangdong Provincial Trade Secret Protection Base unveiled its plaque at the Minying (Private) Science & Technology Building in the Zhuhai National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone (Tangjiawan) on July 21. The first of its kind in Zhuhai, the base will help Tangjiawan optimize its business environment and inject new vitality into its overall development.

Trade secrets are a vital kind of intellectual property rights and where the core competitiveness of an enterprise lies. As a major hub in Zhuhai's innovative development, the Hi-Tech Zone has attracted groups of leading industrial projects in the new-generation information technology, new energy, integrated circuits, biomedicine, and health sectors. 

As of now, the hi-tech zone is home to 37 national, provincial, and municipal Specialized, Elaborative, Characteristic, and Emerging "Little Giant" (Small and Medium-Sized) Enterprises, accounting for 22 percent of Zhuhai's total. The number of hi-tech companies in the zone amounted to 582, while 441 others are sci-tech small and medium-sized enterprises.

Shi Xuebin, director of the municipal Market Regulation Bureau, said that protecting trade secrets is significant in encouraging enterprises to carry out innovation, promoting high-quality economic development, and creating a favorable environment for innovation and entrepreneurship. 

Upon the base's establishment, it will devote efforts to increasing enterprises' awareness of protecting their trade secrets and help them enhance construction of trade secret protection systems to reduce risks of commercial disclosure or infringement of others' trade secrets. 

Next, the base will also provide consulting and assistance services for trade secret protection to companies, and organize experts to conduct research in related fields to further promote the establishment and improvement of the trade secret protection system in Zhuhai.
