Construction of the domestic freight section of Zhuhai Airport International Intelligent Logistics Park is 90 percent finished as of Sept 5, which is expected to be completed in October and be ready to start operation in December. The entire project is 70 percent completed.

The park is one of the first eight domestic aviation construction projects involving private capital unveiled by the National Development & Reform Commission and Civil Aviation Administration of China.

Located west of Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport, the project is invested in, constructed, and run by a logistics subsidiary of Zhuhai Aviation City & Airport Group. With floorage of 104,400 sqm (26 acres), it will become the biggest single aviation cargo terminal in the Chinese mainland upon completion. It will fully undertake the aviation cargo transportation business of Zhuhai Airport, with a designed annual handling capacity of 500,000 metric tons.

The project consists of a 91,800-sqm (22.7-acre) single multi-story aviation cargo building and a nine-floor office building covering floorage of 11,500 sqm (2.8 acres). The aviation cargo building will include functional areas for customs supervision, express mail processing, cold chain processing, and warehouses. Viaducts will be built beside the building to facilitate cargo transportation. 

Lai Rifeng, deputy general manager of the logistics subsidiary of Zhuhai Aviation City & Airport Group, said that the park will use moving and distribution robots, while a big data platform will be built for information management and visual control of every handling process in the park. 

In addition, the park will gradually carry out business related to cross-border e-commerce, e-commerce warehouses, supply chain finance, and fresh cold chain logistics.
