Pink muhly is a clumping grass that grows 60 to 90 centimeters (2 to 3 ft) tall and wide. The perennial is green or brown most of the growing season. It turns into a fluffy pink cloud in late summer and the florescence usually lasts from mid-September to November.
Its feathery seed heads take up half the plant, giving it an airy feel. The leaves and inflorescences change color with the seasons with the inflorescences being pink in early autumn and slightly bronze in winter.
Also known as hairawn muhly, mist grass, gulf muhly grass, and sweetgrass, pink muhly is especially suited to capture stormwater runoff and allow water to soak into the ground.
