Zhuhai was recently selected as one of 30 prefecture-level National Model Cities for Healthy City Construction in 2021 by the National Patriotic Health Campaign Commission, winning the title for the third consecutive year. 

The National Patriotic Health Campaign Commission assessed 407 administrative regions at or above municipal level, with Zhuhai being the only city in Guangdong Province to receive the national model city title.

The city has been promoting the construction of "healthy Zhuhai" in an all-round way in recent years. It has released documents, including the Five-Year Action Plan of the Healthy Zhuhai Campaign (2021-25), to protect residents' life and health safety.

Currently, phased progresses achieved through the Healthy Zhuhai Campaign have been seen in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic as the city's health management has been increasing.

Zhuhai's air quality index (AQI) daily compliance rate reached its highest level in five years in 2021 at 95.1 percent. Refined efforts have been devoted to citywide landscaping, environmental improvement, and garbage classification, with Zhuhai taking the lead in China in turning all its townships into National Hygiene Towns and all its villages into Guangdong Provincial Hygiene Villages. 

In addition, sports and fitness facilities have covered all basic-level communities and villages, which can be accessible within a 10-minute walk for residents.

Over 1 million people have purchased the additional supplementary medical care insurance launched by the city that benefits people of all ages. The health literacy level of Zhuhai residents has reached 32.58 percent and its average life expectancy stands at 83.01 years. Zhuhai residents have also maintained a high ranking across major health indexes in China and have even reached the level of those in developed countries. 

Zhuhai is expected to further promote the construction of a National Healthy City and provide all-round health service for residents, increasing people's sense of gain and satisfaction in health-related issues.
