The permanent population of Zhuhai (including the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin) as of the end of 2022 was recorded at 2,477,200, increasing by 10,500 when compared to 2021 figures, according to the yearly population data published by the Zhuhai Statistics Bureau on April 10.

Among them, 2.25 million people live in urban areas, accounting for 90.76 percent of the city's total, indicating a 0.01 percentage point increase year on year.

The city's birth rate in 2022 was 9.34 per thousand people (permillage), while its death rate was 3.27 permillage, showing a natural growth rate of 6.08 permillage. Compared with 2021 figures, the birth rate went down by 0.56 percent and the natural rate of growth decreased by 0.88 percent.

Zhuhai's Xiangzhou District has the highest urbanization rate, coming in at 99.92 percent, and its total population was 1,406,600. Doumen district has a population of 617,100, with an urbanization rate of 65.95 percent. The population of Jinwan district was 453,500, and its urbanization rate was 96.1 percent.
