New area of Macao's port zone at Hengqin Port opens on April 20
Starting from midnight of April 20, 2023, the passenger and cargo inspection area (except the bridge connecting the University of Macau to the new Hengqin Port) under the second phase of Macao's port zone at Hengqin Port and extended areas officially started operation, and is now put into use in accordance with the laws of the Macao SAR.
The permanent driveways for passenger and freight vehicles linking Guangdong and Macao SAR in the Hengqin Port Phase II will adopt the "one-stop" customs inspection model. By then, inbound and outbound vehicles will go through border procedures, customs and quarantine inspections all in one place, greatly reducing customs clearance time.
The opening date of the permanent driveway will be jointly decided by the governments of Guangdong and Macao. Before it opens, outbound and inbound vehicles still need to use the temporary lane.
A handover ceremony from Zhuhai to Macao was held before.
Handover of Macao's port zone at Hengqin port and extended areas to Macao SAR will take place in three phases, including Macao's port zone at Hengqin port, Lotus Flower Bridge and the area connecting the University of Macau to Hengqin Port, and the area reserved for an extension to Macao’s Light Rapid Transit system that will serve Hengqin Port. The first phase of handover was completed on March 18, 2020 and the designated area was put into operation on August 18, 2020.
