Macao medical personnel to be allowed to practice in Hengqin from August
Starting from August 1st this year, qualified practitioners from Macao will be granted to work in medical institutions in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, according to a press conference held by the Cooperation Zone authority on May 31.
At the press conference, a new regulation on the management of medical personnel was unveiled, and it will be put into effect from August 1 this year.
Hengqin welcomes more medical personnel and institutions to settle down and provide medical services in the Cooperation Zone, as it is dedicated to optimizing the layout of the local health industry and medical industry.
Based on the regulation, Macao's qualified medical personnel with practicing certificates are allowed to provide medical services within the Cooperation Zone. They need to fulfill the requirements of having been practicing in Macao for at least two years and being not prohibited from providing medical and health services in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Chinese mainland. They don’t have to obtain professional qualifications or short-term practicing applications given by the Chinese mainland authority.
"Previously, it was not possible for Macao's medical personnel to practice in various institutions in the Chinese mainland. This regulation further expands the scope of our services and enables us to work closely with the medical teams of the Chinese mainland to achieve joint research and development," said Leong Man Kin, a cardiologist at the University Hospital of Macau University of Science and Technology and a member of the Macau Academy of Medicine in the speciality of Cardiology.
