The mahogany carving made in Suzhou area enjoys a long history. Since the Ming Dynasty, it has formed a "Suzhou style" style with concise shape, neat lines, fine workmanship and brightly smooth surface. Carving the “Suzhou style” rosewood requires the wood be first treated by drying process, and the traditional mortise and tenon structure is adopted to control the shrinkage, deformation and crack of the product.

The main rosewood products include the complete sets of furniture such as the beds, cupboards, tables and sofas, and more often, the rosewood is used to make indoor decorative mahogany products in the superior bedroom, restaurant, study and living room. There are nearly a thousand varieties of rosewood products, such as small pieces of mahogany, including boxes, plates, seats, screens, etc; the bamboo tubes, cages and covers made of shallow engraving, embossing and engraving, as well as rosewood crafts with designs of characters, beasts and flowers; and other rosewood souvenirs, such as chopsticks, printing boxes, bookmarks, wire boards and saucers.

Since the establishment of Suzhou Rosewood Carving Plant in 1954, its products have been distributed by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and exported to more than 50 countries and regions such as Southeast Asia, Europe and America. More than 20 sets of mahogany carving products have been awarded in various national competitions. In 1993, it was carefully made into 15 sets of furniture for the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. The 15 sets of dedicated furniture included large beds and cabinets such as antique cabinets using superior rosewood and such exquisite workmanship and the fine carving won the rewards by the State Council.
