A charity concert presented by the Suzhou Chinese Orchestra was held at Suzhou New District's Public Activity Center on June 11.
The concert is the first one of its kind staged by the orchestra to bring high art to ordinary people.
The Moon over a Fountain, Jiangnan in March, Journey to Suzhou and other familiar classic local folk songs by erhu (a two-stringed bowed instrument) or pipa (a plucked string instrument with a fretted fingerboard) were performed for local residents.
Interpretations for the basic knowledge of folk music were interwoven between different songs to help the audience better enjoy the charm of traditional Chinese music.
The Suzhou Chinese Orchestra is expected to stage 14 charity concerts for the seven villages and towns in Suzhou New District in June and benefit more than 10,000 local residents.
Founded in Dec 2017, the Suzhou orchestra has been dedicated to promoting traditional Chinese culture by integrating Chinese folk music into the orchestra performance, and re-interpreting and expressing traditional Chinese music through symphony.
