Liu Xijin receives a special allowance from China's State Council, and currently serves as chairman of China Nationalities Orchestra Society and vice-chairman of Chinese Opera Research Association.
Liu once collected folk songs in China's northwest, southwest and Jiangnan regions, and this exerted great impact on his music style. Composing music that is popular among common people is his goal.
His works have been performed in Asia, Europe and the Americas and he has given lectures, served as an art judge and held solo concerts in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore.
