The Suzhou Chinese Orchestra is set to give concerts in 13 European cities in nine countries in 2019, according to a recent news conference held in Suzhou New District, Jiangsu province.
The European tour will start in Hamburg, Germany, Jan 16 and stop in Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Poland and end in Moscow Feb 9.
Besides overseas concerts, the orchestra plans to stage more than 100 concerts in Chinese cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, and Shenzhen, including 66 performances exclusively for local students, residents and employees of local enterprises.
The Suzhou Chinese Orchestra, co-founded by the Suzhou municipal government and Suzhou New District in December 2017, is aimed at promoting traditional Chinese culture by integrating Chinese folk music into orchestra performances, and reinterpreting and expressing traditional Chinese music through the symphonic format.
The orchestra has more than 90 musicians from over five countries and regions, including the Chinese mainland, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Over the past year, the orchestra put on 124 concerts at home and abroad, including 52 exclusively for local students and residents.
