A state-level fisheries ecological engineering research center will be located in Xushuguan, a town in Suzhou New District, Jiangsu province, local media reported on Nov 12.

The center, covering 250 mu (167 hectares), is planned to include six functional zones: integrated research management, intelligent aquaculture, ecological aquaculture, wetland restoration, and experimental zones of standardized ponds and rice-fish culture, according to the cooperation framework agreement inked between the town and the Fishery Machinery and Instrument Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences.

The to-be-built research center will become the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences' second largest center, while the two other are industrial circulating water research center and marine engineering equipment research center.

A spokesman for the Suzhou New District said that the district government will provide upmost support to the research center's construction and development and the local government also hoped that the center will help the district attract more high-profile talents and state-level sci-tech projects.
