According to its curator, the western branch of Suzhou Museum in Suzhou New District is scheduled to open to the public by the end of 2020.

Construction of the new museum's main structure has begun.

Chen Ruijin, curator of Suzhou Museum, said on Feb 14 that with an exhibition area of 12,000 square meters, the museum's western branch will showcase the ancient Chinese city's long history and traditional handicrafts as well as world-renowned artworks from overseas museums.

Its exhibition area will include five parts: a general Suzhou history pavilion, a Suzhou handicrafts pavilion, a discovery children's pavilion, a cooperation pavilion with Canada's Royal Ontario Museum and a temporary pavilion.

According to Chen, Suzhou Museum was recognized as one of the best in China in 2018 and the Suzhou New District branch will surely help improve its profile nationwide.
