A total of 29 projects worth 31.9 billion yuan ($4.6 billion) started construction in Suzhou New District, Jiangsu province, along with another 199 Suzhou projects on Feb 19.
Some 8.1 billion yuan is expected to be invested in these projects this year, covering modern industry, technological innovation and livelihood.
The modern industry projects include new materials, high-end equipment manufacturing and modern finance, of which the in vitro diagnosis (IVD) base between Suzhou Hybiome Biomedical Engineering Co and France-based biotechnology company Biomerieux is highly anticipated.
With an investment of 280 million yuan, the first phase of the IVD base project, also a research and development base, is projected to yield 1 billion yuan annually after being put into service.
Of the technological innovation projects, the project of upgrading Fengqiao Industry Park is highlighted. The industry park will be constructed into a high-level one focusing on digital economy and intelligent manufacturing industries, which has the ability to accommodate 150 companies and 3,000 researchers.
The livelihood projects involve the construction of schools and affordable housing as well as the renovation of old residential communities.
