Suzhou New District (SND)'s Suzhou Chinese Orchestra performed at the National Grand Theater along with the Jiangsu Chinese Orchestra on the evening of Nov 12.

The performance was sponsored by the Jiangsu Publicity Department and the Jiangsu Literary Federation and organized by Jiangsu Performance Arts Group Co Ltd, the Jiangsu Music Association, and the SND publicity department.

The performance was meant to honor Zhu Changyao, a well-known erhu player, and featured 20 classic erhu and vocal works by Zhu.

Several well-known singers were invited to grace the stage, and more than 1,000 people witnessed the performance.

In addition to playing the erhu, Zhu Changyao is also a composer, national first-level musician, and winner of the second Jiangsu Zijin Culture Medal.

He is now chairman of the Jiangsu Musician Association and vice-chairman of the Jiangsu Federation of Literary and Art Circles.

This is the third time this year that the SND orchestra has performed at the National Grand Theater, proving that it has earned respect within the Chinese art circle.

We were both inspired and anxious, said Peng Jiapeng, art director and principal conductor of the orchestra, who said that he hoped to deliver even better performances in the future.
