Nanjing University and Suzhou Municipal People's Government inked an agreement in March 2019 to build a branch campus of Nanjing University in Suzhou New District, with a designed area of 133 hectares.
The Suzhou branch campus is expected to enroll the first group of about 200,000 students for the autumn semester in 2021, which will include 3,400 postgraduate and 1,500 international students.
The school will also highlight cooperation with world leading colleges and universities, aiming to bring in advanced international education resources, elevate its international education capabilities, and cultivate talents with international competence by carrying out joint degree or dual degree undergraduate programs.
The graduate school will focus on cutting-edge fields such as information technology, big data, artificial intelligence, ecological environment, and earth resources. It also looks forward to enlarging the faculty team and seeking new ways of talent training with foreign universities.
The new campus carries the hope to propel local industrial growth with its research and development achievements, while Suzhou-based enterprises will offer plentiful of internships to students. Nanjing University's advantages in earth sciences, engineering, and automation are also in line with Suzhou's pillar industries, namely information technology and high-end manufacturing.
