With investment of 500 million yuan ($71 million) from Suzhou New District and Suzhou Everbright Photonics Co, construction of the Semiconductor Laser Innovation Institute recently started, with the facility expected to be put into operation in the second half of 2021.
Located on Kunlunshan Road in Suzhou Science and Technology town, the institute was designed with a built-up area of 50,000 square meters and will be equipped with buildings for daily office work, scientific research and development, and manufacturing techniques.
The institute will take advantage of Everbright Photonics' professional capabilities – the only company in China to study and manufacture high-power semiconductor laser chips – and will sharpen skills in 3D laser sensing chips, high-speed optical communication chips, laser lighting, and laser displays.
It will not only help Everbright Photonics strengthen its research capabilities and maintain sustainable development, but is also expected to become the world's largest research and manufacturing base for high-power semiconductor laser chips.
