Jieshan Academy, or the Shushan Branch of Suzhou Library which is hidden in bamboo forests and boasts a huge collection of books, opened to the public on April 18.

Featuring an architectural style of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the library aims to create an immersive reading environment for local residents and encourage more people to fall in love with books.

Local cultural exhibits, characteristic agricultural products and folk cultural elements decorate every corner of the library. A total of 50,000 books offered by Suzhou Library also make the place a top choice for book worms.

The library is planning to invite scholars, artists and experts at home and abroad and regularly carry out lectures, exhibitions, cultural experiences, and other creative events. It will also host public benefit activities to donate more books to local households.

For local residents, a citizen card or enough scores on Zhima Credit, a subsidiary of China's e-commerce giant Alibaba, can help them apply for a free library card and lend books from the library. They can also enjoy free access to the internet as well as the online book database of Suzhou Library.
