The first independent district-level children's library opened to public in Suzhou New District on April 23, covering over 1,300 square meters and boasting a collection of 20,000 books.
Located in the first floor of the cultural and sports center in Xushuguan town, the library features a neat, elegant and modern architectural style, while is also spruced up by Jiangnan cultural elements, the region on the south of the lower reaches of Yangtze River.
A reading area especially designed for teenagers aged from seven to 16 is decorated by green chairs and wooden tables. A giant chess board in the center of the area allows teenagers to enjoy the fun of intellectual games while reading.
Another reading area for children aged between zero and six is divided into three functional parts. The "Castle of Wisdom" is painted in pink, baby blue and soft green and has a special English corner. Standing on the bridge, overlooking the entire landscapes, and enjoying a little boat idling on the river contribute to much fun and joy at the "Town of Knowledge". The "Fantasy Forest" is equipped with a display screen, enabling children for a virtual reality trip and run wild their imaginations.
There are also regular reading activities to enrich children's reading experiences.
Children can borrow books for free using their children's card issued by the Suzhou Library or a local citizen card.
