Expats working and living in Suzhou New District (SND) extended greetings at a recent cultural activity organized by the district foreigner service center to welcome the Lunar New Year, local media outlets reported.

Ahti Eljas from Finland said he has been working and living in Suzhou for more than 10 years and he has long before recognized the city as his second home away from home.

"The local government and residents have helped me and my family a lot and we will answer the government's call to stay put and enjoy safety and happiness in China," Eljas said.

Abukawa Kuoji, principal of the Japanese School of Suzhou, appreciated SND's love and care amid the tightening measures on COVID-19 prevention and control during the Spring Festival holiday.

"I really enjoy the cultural activities as my life in Suzhou is getting rich and colorful," the principal said.

Cara comes from the United States and is now working as an English teacher at the Suzhou Foreign Language School. She showed great interest in embroidery and tried her hands at needling and weaving Chinese knots.

"I've learned that Chinese knots is a symbol of happiness and union. I made one on my own as I wished for world peace," Cara said.
