The 2021 Shushan Pear Blossom Cultural Tourism Festival opened on March 22, with an average over 20,000 visitors per day. Faced with the challenges of a large number of tourists, the police officers in Suzhou New District explore new approaches to security control and service management in rural tourism, providing strong support for the development of rural tourism.
"Hello, dear visitor, for your personal safety, please do not climb over the fence!" In the Shushan Scenic Area, a police drone is issuing verbal reminders to a tourist engaging in risky sightseeing behavior.
In recent years, to strengthen patrol and maintain social safety and stability, police officers in Suzhou New District have introduced advanced equipment and employed modern technological means. The police drones currently patrolling and issuing warnings in the sky are the "black technology" employed by the Suzhou New District police officers to prevent various safety incidents in the Shushan Scenic Area. Prior to this, based on previous years' incidents, crowded areas, and high-risk locations in the Shushan Scenic Area, the Suzhou New District police conducted multiple surveys to set the optimal flight routes for the drones and equipped them with loudspeakers and high-definition video transmission systems. During the Shushan Pear Blossom Festival, the Suzhou New District police officers deployed drones for patrol five times a day, forming an "aerial patrol team" to monitor traffic conditions, conducting all-weather and full-coverage "aerial patrols." The aerial footage is transmitted synchronously to the comprehensive command center, providing first-hand data and references for ground police deployment and command. When the drones capture dangerous behavior by tourists in real-time, the Unmanned Aircraft Control Platform immediately operates the drone equipped with a high-altitude loudspeaker to fly to the target area and issue warnings to deter the behavior. At the same time, when the drones capture scenes of road congestion, the police officers will use the drones to issue high-altitude warnings to resolve the congestion issues in situations where police officers cannot access the congested areas.
"The application of drones enables monitoring of crowd gatherings, traffic congestion, and blind spots in surveillance. Additionally, it can swiftly locate missing persons and maximize the drone's capabilities in terms of rapid response, early intervention, and capturing and deterring suspects," explained Han Tao, director of the Tong'an police station. In the event of an incident, while the duty commander dispatches nearby police forces, instructions are immediately sent to the police drones from the control center. The police drones autonomously intervene at the scene, utilizing intelligent camera technology to capture images of individuals, conduct facial recognition, and perform intelligent comparisons to quickly identify individuals. In the case of ongoing criminal activities, the drones facilitate aerial tracking of suspects, guide the police to encircle and apprehend them, and if reinforcement is needed, direct nearby police forces to provide support, thereby maximizing the capture of criminal suspects.
In addition, to improve service quality and visitor satisfaction, Suzhou New District police officers have established green channels for service and assistance. They have set up convenient service points and dynamic service posts to provide reception and consultation services, road guidance, and emergency assistance to tourists. Addressing issues such as tourists forgetting to bring ID cards for accommodation, they offer services like "24-hour temporary accommodation certificates".
