Suzhou New District signed agreements for 82 key scientific and technological projects on April 2, attracting a total of 15.6 billion yuan ($2.38 billion) in investment.
The projects include renowned research institutes, scientific and technological projects, innovation and commercialization platforms, and venture capital institutions. They involve industries such as new-generation information technology, medical devices and biopharmaceuticals, high-end equipment manufacturing, and energy conservation.
The day also saw the unveiling of an innovation center for alumni of the China Europe International Business School that were born in or live in Suzhou. The center aims to use the alumni's innovative and entrepreneurial resources to boost local economic and talent development.
A medical technology innovation alliance was also unveiled. It has already attracted industrial leaders such as Mednovo, Whale Man, and Leadmed.
The unveiling also included Suzhou Industrial Technology Research Institute's branch for electronic functional materials technology. It will be led by Professor Xu Zhuo and his research team from Xi'an Jiaotong University, whose research achievements on transparent ferroelectric single crystals with ultrahigh piezoelectricity ranked among China's top 10 scientific advances of 2020. The new institute aims to boost the upgrading and application of artificial intelligence, industrial internet, medical imaging, and underwater equipment.
SND is now home to nearly 100 research institutes and over 36,000 high-end talents. It is also home to 21 listed companies, 24 unicorn companies, 268 gazelle companies, and 972 national high-tech companies.
