Shushan waxberries will be available for picking starting from June 5 and lasting for over 10 days, according to the fruit farmers from Tong'an town, Suzhou New District.
Due to the pleasant weather this year, the yield of Shushan waxberries is expected to increase by 20 percent from the previous year.
Shushan waxberries, originally called “Chuishan” waxberries, have a history of over 400 years. There are two types of Shushan waxberries. The pale yellow one, which is special to Shushan village, is sweeter than the dark reddish-purple one.
The fruit is round and large, weighing 15 grams each. It is popular for its refreshing sweet and sour taste, as well as the nutrition it contains.
Shushan waxberries were awarded the registration certificate of the Agro-product Geographical Indications by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, becoming the first product awarded with this designation in SND.
