Two giant pandas named Xinyue and Zhuyun, aged 18 and 19 respectively, celebrated their birthdays recently in Taihu Lake Wetland Park in Suzhou New District.
The giant panda venue was decorated with colorful balloons and panda toys hanging on the trees to mark the occasion.
The panda keepers prepared a special birthday cake with apples, carrots, bamboo shoots, and ice for the giant pandas. Fresh bamboo and bamboo shoots were also prepared for the pandas.
"Pandas love to eat bamboo and bamboo shoots, but there aren't much trace elements in these foods. As such, we specially made an ice cake with fresh fruits and vegetables, which not only help cool the pandas in the hot summer but also provide a variety of trace elements," said the panda keepers.
The two panda sisters have been living in the Giant Panda Science Popularization Museum in Suzhou since September 7, 2011. The enclosure they live in comprises an outdoor area and an indoor area where the temperature is kept constant.
"We will take good care of the two pandas and hold various types of events to advocate the protection of environment and wild animals," said a manager of the wetland park.
