With the construction of the Nanjing University Suzhou Campus moving into high gear, more details about the much-anticipated campus were unveiled recently.
Nanjing University style
The teaching buildings of Nanjing University Suzhou Campus will feature the classic grey-and-red brick tone, which originated from the university's first campus in Gulou district, Nanjing.
Suzhou classical garden elements
The campus will integrate the architectural and cultural elements of Suzhou classical gardens into its squares and courtyards to showcase the unique history and culture of the city.
Eco-friendliness
The campus, which was designed based on the idea of eco-friendliness and the goal of evolving into an ecological civilization demonstration base, will feature a variety of green and environment-friendly facilities such as inner curtains, a heat preservation system, an energy-efficient lighting system, a rainwater collection system, a solar energy system, and a natural ventilation system.
Interdisciplinary integration
The campus will focus on developing five disciplines - artificial intelligence and information technology, functional materials and intelligent manufacturing, biochemical medicine and health sciences, earth system and future environment, and digital economy and management science.
As all teaching buildings interconnected, interdisciplinary integration will be enhanced as teachers and students will be able to travel between floors and buildings easily.
The campus will welcome its first batch of undergraduates and postgraduates in September 2022.
