The first batch of shared bikes was put into use in downtown Suzhou on Dec 11, local media outlets reported.

Hellobike and Meituan were allowed by the Suzhou urban management department to offer their bike sharing service across the city, with the two companies planning to distribute a total of 68,000 shared bikes in the downtown area.

Part of the original parking lots for non-motor vehicles will be used as the parking spaces for shared bikes. Users can park the bikes inside the areas with signs, or look up where these areas are located via their smart phones.

Public bikes appeared in Suzhou in 2010. As of now, there are nearly 100,000 public bikes downtown. With the newly launched shared bikes, residents will find it more convenient to travel around the city.
