A new intercity railway connecting Shanghai with Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces will start construction simultaneously in the three regions in the first half of the year, according the executive committee of the Yangtze River Delta Ecology and Greenery Integration Demonstration Zone.
The Shanghai-Suzhou-Jiaxing Intercity Railway is made up of three sections – the Shanghai Demonstration Zone Railway (Shanghai section), Watertown Tourism Railway (Jiangsu section), and Jiashan-Xitang Railway (Zhejiang section).
It will play a key role in achieving the goal of building a "Yangtze River Delta region on track".
The intercity railway, stretching 100 kilometers with 15 stations, starts from Shanghai's Hongqiao CBD in the east and connects with the Shanghai-Jiaxing Intercity Railway in the south and the Rudong-Nantong-Suzhou-Huzhou Intercity Railway in the west.
A number of core areas in the region will be connected, including the Hongqiao CBD, Qingpu New City, Xicen Science and Technology Innovation Center, Watertown Living Room, Xiangfudang Science and Technology Innovation Green Valley, and Wujiang HSR Scientific Innovation New Town.
Suzhou Rail Transit Line 10, Shanghai Metro Line 17 and Jiaxing Rail Transit Line 3 will converge at the "Watertown Living Room" station in the future, bringing convenience to local residents and increasing the interconnectivity of the region.
