Cuiguan pear trees growing in the orchards of Shushan village, Suzhou New District, East China's Jiangsu province, are now laden with juicy fruit.
Cuiguan pears, nicknamed "snow in June" for their white flesh, thin skin, tiny pits, and sweet and juicy taste, hit shelves on July 22 and will be available until Aug 15 this year.
Nurtured by the fresh air and fertile soil of Shushan village, the pears usually come onto market between late July and early August every year.
Due to rain showers in the pollination season, the quantity of pears produced in 2022 is expected to be 20 percent less than usual and the price might be a little higher than in previous years.
In addition to Cuiguan pears, there are many other seasonal foods in Suzhou to help cool you off in summer, such as the honey peach, sour plum juice, peppermint cake, mung bean soup, and June hairy crab.
