The railway network traveling across the Yangtze River Delta region in East China will start implementing a paperless ticket extension system on Sept 1, local media outlets reported.
The system will be implemented at all railways stations as well as all high-speed and ordinary trains in the YRD.
Passengers who take trains in the region (except urban railways) can ask railway staff for ticket extensions on the trains or upon arrival at the stations. Once they board high-speed trains with a newly-launched Railway Fast Pass service, they can just scan the QR code posted on the armrest of their seat and fill in their ticket extension application via the WeChat mini-program that pops up.
After passengers pay for their ticket extensions, they will immediately receive a short message from 12306 informing them of the completed ticket extension.
Passengers can take the train and leave the station with a valid ID used for ticket extensions. Those who need to apply for reimbursements can go to the self-ticketing machine or the station's ticketing window within 180 days from the date of boarding.
For senior citizens or other passengers unfamiliar with the digital service, staff are available to help them face to face.
