As a tribute to cinema's legacy, the 2022 Classic Film Festival, the only restoration-themed film festival in China, will run from Nov 25 to Dec 4 in Suzhou, featuring restored 2k and 4k ultra high-definition versions of 12 films.

The Omnijoi International Cinema at Emerald City Mall and the Lumiere Pavilion Cinema at the Golden Eagle Shopping Center in Suzhou New District were two of the five screening sites in Suzhou.

Films to be shown at the two cinemas include The Striving, Long Live the Missis, The Teahouse, The Herdsman, Woman, Demon, Human, The Bicycle Thieves, Singin' in the Rain, The Moon Has Risen, Breathless, Taste of Cherry, and Black Cat, White Cat.

The Teahouse, which was adapted from the novel of the same name written by Shu Qingchun, better known by his pseudonym Lao She, is set in an old house in Beijing, unfolding over several tumultuous decades of modern Chinese history, from the waning days of the Qing dynasty (1644-1911) to the eve of the People's Republic (1911-49).

Singin' in the Rain, which was released in 1952, tells the story of a silent film star falling for a chorus girl while he and his delusional jealous screen partner are trying to make the difficult transition to talking pictures in 1920s Hollywood.
