Two intangible cultural heritage items from Suzhou New District in East China's Jiangsu province recently received provincial recognition.
Xushuguan straw mat, or Guanxi straw mat, originates in SND's Xushuguan town, which was renowned for an annual production of 3 million straw mats. Xushuguan straw mat was also favored by the Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
The Xushuguan-made straw mat highlights bright blue color, a smooth surface, compact knitting, a comfortable and cool hand feeling, and tough and durable features. In addition to being used as a mattress, the straw mat is now used to make furniture, bags, and footwear.

Liliangji is a time-honored traditional Chinese medicine brand in Jiangsu with ointment making techniques that have a history of more than 100 years.
Liliangji ointment includes a four-season ointment, a classic ointment developed by TCM doctors, and a customized ointment, all of which are made with ancient methods.
Currently, SND is home to 33 intangible cultural heritage items and 55 of their inheritors.
