Jiangsu Medpark Accelerator, which covers a built-up area of 284,000 square meters and attracted an investment of 1.8 billion yuan ($253.9 million), was officially launched on April 28.
It was developed by Jiangsu Medpark, a leading medical device industrial park in Suzhou New District (SND) and has won solid support from the management committee of Suzhou Science and Technology Town.
The accelerator plays a key role in helping SND develop its medical equipment industry, one of the five forerunner industries regarded by the district as new development engines, and will further stimulate the local biomedical industry.
The first group of 25 enterprises, with investment totaling 2 billion yuan, signed agreements at the opening ceremony and will be settled in the accelerator in the near future. These enterprises cover fields such as in vitro diagnostic reagents, high-quality supplies, medical imaging, and biomedical materials and are expected to bring the accelerator with new development possibilities.
Designed as a high-end science and technology park, the accelerator was committed to breaking the stereotypes to have every industrial park laid out by high-rise offices and production plants and has been working on integrating the companies' research capabilities and brand building needs.
Jiangsu Medpark was established in 2009 with an area of 2 sq km and consists of more than 200 companies settling in its north and south sections. The southern part contains a 1-sq-km area for research and development centers, authoritative testing, and evaluation institutions, while the 1-sq-km northern part is an industrial demonstration area.
