Suzhou district aims to develop into regional commercial and consumer center

In recent years, Suzhou district, located in Jiuquan city, Gansu province, has strategically positioned itself as a core carrier within the national land-sea hybrid logistics hub. The district has been dedicated to continually optimizing its commercial and trade systems, attracting high-quality brands, improving product quality, activating consumer markets, and working towards establishing a regional commercial and consumer center with substantial influence across the entire province.

Creating a new landmark for shopping and consumer activities

Suzhou has successfully attracted various commercial and logistics projects, such as the Fukang Shopping Center, Wanda, and the Jiuquan Smart Comprehensive Logistics Park. These initiatives have culminated in the development of thriving urban business circles and made a noticeable enhancement in the clustering, specialization, and convenience of the commercial and logistics industry, resulting in more balanced layouts and comprehensive functions.

The continuous upgrades to these urban business circles have invigorated trade and consumer activities in Suzhou, making it an increasingly appealing destination for integrated commercial complexes looking to establish a presence in the region. The Red Star Macalline Commercial Complex, situated in the Jiuquan high-speed rail zone, represents a significant investment project for the district, currently undergoing rapid development. It is poised to become a pivotal commercial landmark in the area, filling the gap in leisure shopping and enhancing the overall commercial vibrancy of the region.

"We are constructing a substantial commercial cluster spanning nearly 86,000 square meters, focusing on the Red Star Macalline furniture trade industry chain. Upon completion, it is expected to create job opportunities for approximately 3,000 people in the vicinity while also enhancing the commercial service offerings of the high-speed rail zone," said Meng Qin, marketing director of the Red Star Macalline Commercial Complex.

The consumer market is intrinsically linked to the well-being of the people, and Suzhou has recognized this connection. In recent years, the district has leveraged investments to enhance business layouts, establish high-quality commercial venues, and provide more convenient consumer services, resulting in a continuously improved consumer experience. Simultaneously, while advancing the development of the commercial market, the district has remained committed to meeting the diverse needs of its residents.

Unlocking the full potential of consumer demand

During the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, Suzhou district harnessed the potential for holiday-related consumption and promoted heightened market activity. Through well-organized promotional activities, over 30 themed events were held, ensuring stable growth in holiday spending.

In the automotive sector, the district hosted a new energy vehicle exhibition and sales event, with the participation of 47 automobile dealers. This event, showcasing more than 400 vehicles daily, resulted in sales of 685 vehicles and generated sales revenue of 114 million yuan ( $15.6 million). During the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day Holiday period, the entire district achieved retail income of 43.78 million yuan. The catering and accommodation industry also experienced a surge in consumption, thanks to promotion activities.

Building a new pattern of trade and logistics

Suzhou district has embraced the Belt and Road Initiative in recent years, contributing to the expansion and enhancement of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor. Taking advantage of Jiuquan's strategic location, the district has facilitated the export of high-quality seed products to overseas markets. This comprehensive effort is geared towards establishing a pivotal goods distribution hub for Jiuquan.

Suzhou has its sights firmly set on becoming a regional trade and consumer center. Through meticulous planning and layout optimization, infrastructure improvements, the implementation of key projects, diversification of industrial forms, and the promotion of specialization and scalability within trade and logistics sectors, the district aims to create high-quality business venues, elevate the consumer market, and expedite the convergence of people, goods, and information. The district's regional influence and driving capacity continue to strengthen.

"We have launched key trade projects with the introduction of new business formats. This approach has expedited improvements in existing consumption formats and brand aggregation within urban business circles. We have also intensified our efforts in establishing new consumption business districts, such as Chun Guang, Red Star Macalline, and Beidahe River. These initiatives have collectively given rise to several commercial city districts. Concurrently, we have been integrated into the development of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, fostering enhancements in regional concentration and diffusion functions. We have provided steadfast policy incentives and support for enterprises to conduct large-scale automobile exhibitions and consumer promotion activities, thereby advancing the overall upgrade and efficiency improvement of the district's trade and economy," said Sheng Xueli, a member of the Suzhou bureau of commerce's Party committee.

Looking ahead, Suzhou will focus on eight key special actions: enhancing consumer venues, concentrating consumer resources, optimizing consumer supply chains, driving digital transformation in businesses, promoting night-time economic activities, establishing open platforms, transforming consumer ecosystems, and creating a high-quality consumer environment.
