Lipu, a county-level city in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, was created during the reign of Emperor Liu Che (141-87 BC) of the Western Han Dynasty (202 BC-AD 8). It covers an area of 1,758 square kilometers and is comprised of 13 townships with a population of 385,000, including 15 ethnic groups.

Lipu is located in southern Guilin. The Yangshuo-Luzhai Highway, the Lipu-Yulin Highway, No.321 and No.323 state-level roads all traverse Lipu, which will also be connected with the Hezhou-Bama Highway upon its completion.

Lipu is widely known for its advanced industrial sector and sound business environment. There are over 650 industrial enterprises in Lipu. It has fostered three leading industries related to the manufacturing of coat hangers, food & drugs, and photo-electronics, becoming the world's largest production and export base of hangers, and has grown into a leading food-processing hub in southern China.

Lipu has set up Guangxi's first county-level sci-tech innovation fund. It has also intensified its efforts to transform the manufacturing of hangers, food & drugs, and photo-electronics into three leading industrial sectors with a transaction volume over 10 billion yuan ($1.45 billion), as well as to build one high-tech industrial zone with a market value of 10 billion yuan ($1.45 billion), to attract more investment, and to promote the building of a class-B bonded logistics center, hanger-manufacturing industrial area, and timber trade market.

With a farmland area of over 370,000 mu (24,666.6 hectares), Lipu has been tapping into the great potential of its modern specialty agricultural businesses. It has built 147 demonstration agricultural parks and developed the plantation and processing of specialty agricultural products, such as taro, citrus and lotus, into lucrative businesses.

Lipu boasts rich tourism resources, which include three national 4A tourist attractions and four national 3A scenic spots.

In 2021, the economy of Lipu grew 6.3 percent year-on-year to a record high of 15.94 billion yuan ($2.32 billion). The primary industry, second industry and service sector saw an annual increase of 9 percent, 2.2 percent and 7.4 percent respectively in 2021.
