Multinational Autonomous County of Longsheng

The county is under jourisdiction of Guilin and located in the northeast of Guangxi and the northwest of Guilin, with a total area of 2,538 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 6 towns including Longsheng, Sanmen, Piaoli, Pingdeng, Longji and Lejiang, and 4 townships that are Sishui, Madi, Jiangdi and Weijiang. The county’s people’s government lies at No. 3 of Gulong Street in the community of north Longsheng Town. As of December 31, 2021, the county’s permanent population is 139,800, including 49,700 urban population and 90,100 rural population, with a natural population growth rate of -1.50‰. In ancient times, Longsheng was the land of Sangjiang, where a dragon defeated a tiger in the fight, thus the name “Longsheng”(meaning the dragon wins) coming to being. But this legend is undocumented.

The landscape in the county is mountainous with an average altitude of 700-800 meters and Fuping Bao as the highest point with the altitude of 1916 meters which is the second peak in Guangxi. The terrain is low in the west, while high in the other three sides where the Yuecheng Moutain stretches from its northeast all the way to the southwest. Criss-cross mountains stand prominent with slopes steep and waters rush through deep valleys. Rivers within the territory belong to the upper reaches of Xunjiang River of the Pearl River system. There are more than 80 rivers, big or small, merging and entering, from the east, south and north, into Sangjiang and then flow as one towards west to Sanjiang County. Sangjiang, Heping River, Pingdeng River and Sanmen River are the main rivers in the country where the average annual temperature is 18.2°C and the average annual rainfall is 1500 mm.

There are talc, gold, granite, lead zinc, manganese and other 17 kinds of mineral resources. There are also natural reserves like Longji rice terraces, Nanshan pasture, Huaping Forest region, Xijiangping Forest region, Longsheng Hot Spring National Forest Park and others. Despite the 31 species of protected animals such as leopard, giant salamaw and stump-tailed macaque, there are 12 species of protected plants such as silver fir, cyathea, taxus chinensis, five-leaved pine and fokienia hodginsii. The 321 line of national road, and the 144 county road pass through the county and 2 tourism bus stations are there namely Junda and Longji. As a county with the most abundant tourism resources in the big Guilin tourist area, there are two national 4A scenic spots such as Longsheng Hot Spring and Longji Terrace as well as sightseeing or leisure spots and historical sites like Huaping Nature Reserve, Xijiangping and Pengzu Primitive Forest,Drum Towers of Dong People, Wind and Rain Bridge, Redarmy Rock, to name a few. Jiaoping, Piaoli are the two industrial parks in the county with mineral, electric power, agriculture and forestry, tourism as the four pillar industries. The major economic crops are Chinese fir, pine, bamboo, rice, corn,and others while the typical native products are tea oil, mushrooms, dried bamboo shoots, chicken,  goat, to name a few.
