Pingle County is located in the southeast of Guilin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with a total area of 1,919.34 square kilometers. The county administers six towns and four townships and has a population of around 500,000. It is also home to 15 ethnic groups including Han, Yao, Zhuang, and Hui, and has one A-class industrial park at the autonomous region level.

In 2021, the county saw a steady economic growth. The regional GDP reached 12.738 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.3 percent, with the primary industry accounting for 6.64 billion yuan, up by 9.2 percent, secondary industry 1.32 billion yuan, up by 44.3 percent, and the tertiary industry 4.778 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.7 percent.

Pingle was established as a county in the first year of Wu Ganlu in the Three Kingdoms (AD 265), and has a history of more than 1,800 years. It boasts rich historical and cultural heritage.

Located in the center of the radiation circle of Guilin, Liuzhou, and Hezhou cities, Pingle features convenient transportation, and serves as an important transportation hub in northern Guangxi. It is also the only county in Guilin that has a water export transportation channel leading to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

A number of highways, including the National Highway 323, Baotou-Maoming Expressway, Heba Expressway, Yangshuo-Luzhai Expressway and the soon-to-open Guanyang-Pingle Expressway constitute a complete land transportation network. It is only one hour's drive from Guilin Liangjiang International Airport, Guilin High-speed Railway Station, and Gongcheng High-speed Railway Station.

In addition, the Guijiang River in Pingle County reaches Hunan and Guangdong provinces and Hong Kong. It is the most important branch in the Pearl River – Xijiang River waterway, making Pingle the only county of Guilin that is included in the Pearl River – Xijiang River economic belt.

Pingle is rich in mineral resources, and it has five million tons of manganese ore reserves, ranking second in Guangxi, as well as the granite reserves two billion cubic meters, and the wollastonite reserves 290,000 tons.

The county is also a potential tourism development place in the Greater Guilin tourism circle, featuring beautiful mountains and rivers, pleasant scenery and beautiful ecological environment, and it was recognized a forest county in Guangxi.

Thanks to a pleasant climate and abundant rainfall, Pingle has various fruits and vegetables throughout the year. It is a major production area for Shatian pomelo and persimmon in China. Its high-quality agricultural product bases have an annual output of over one million tons of agricultural products such as persimmon, Shatian pomelo, taro, and citrus mushroom.

Over recent years, the county has highlighted industrial development. It built an industrial park, which covers an area of 1,500 hectares and has the standard plants of 700,000 square meters, housing 157 enterprises.

Focused on steel products, high-tech electronic information, green new building materials, deep processing of agricultural products by cold chain logistics, and renewable energy, the park aims to develop into a circular economy industrial cluster, an intelligent manufacturing industrial cluster, and a green new building materials industrial cluster.
