Huzhou is in the central area of the Yangtze River Delta region and lies within the common hinterland of Shanghai, Hangzhou and Nanjing. As a node city, Huzhou connects the north and south wings of the Yangtze River Delta and the east and central regions. It is 130 kilometers from Shanghai, 75 km from Hangzhou and 220 km from Nanjing.

With the Changxing-Huzhou-Shanghai waterway running through the city, Huzhou is a transport hub in the Yangtze River Delta region.
