Changxing Yangdang river crabs and Miaoxi yellow peaches were recently listed as geographical indication (GI) products, according to a notice published on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

To date, a total of 11 agricultural products from the city, including Changxing Zisun tea, Huzhou sheep, Anji white tea, and Anji bamboo shoots, have obtained the GI trademarks.

GI is a label given to products that have a specific geographic origin and possess certain qualities or a reputation related to that origin.

Changxing Yangdang river crabs are farmed on the western bank of Taihu Lake and Tiaoxi River in Changxing county.

The crabs are fertile and rich in nutrients, including glutamic acid and glycine.

In 2017, a crab breeding base in Changxing received the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification by the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA), becoming the world's first river crab breeding base to recive the certification.

Meanwhile, Miaoxi yellow peaches primarily refer to yellow peaches produced in Miaoxi town, Daixi town, and Daochang township in Huzhou's Wuxing district.

By virtue of the congenial soil and climate, the peaches taste sweeter than ordinary ones on the market. With an annual output of more than 8,000 metric tons, they enjoy huge popularity in cities such as Hangzhou, Jiaxing, Shanghai, Suzhou, and Wuxi.
