Huzhou unveils top 10 tasks to improve residents' health

Huzhou in East China's Zhejiang province recently unveiled 10 tasks to safeguard the health of local residents.

The tasks were released during the inauguration ceremony for the Huzhou Health Volunteers Associations, which currently has about 108 member organizations, consisting of a total of 420,000 people.

One of the tasks is to prioritize the development of the life sciences and health sector. The city aims to ensure that the industrial added value of the city's biomedical industry grows at a pace of more than 9 percent annually.

It will also ramp up efforts to safeguard the physical and mental health of primary and middle school students.

Students from the city will be required to do exercises for no less than one hour every day and run for at least one kilometer in the morning, according to the document.

In addition, Huzhou will strengthen the supervision and monitoring of its air quality. It will work to ensure that the concentration of PM2.5 and PM10 in urban areas are kept within 25 and 50 micrograms per cubic meter respectively throughout the year, as well as that 85 percent of the days have a good air quality rating.

Efforts will also be made to safeguard food safety and improve the availability of exercise facilities for local residents.

The city will push ahead with the reform in its healthcare service system and enhance the standardization of grassroots healthcare institutions.

Efforts will be made to improve the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, in the city as well.
