A truck loaded with 11 pianos departed from Huzhou in East China's Zhejiang province for Xiaojin county, Aba Tibetan and Qiang autonomous prefecture in Southwest China's Sichuan province on Aug 10.

The pianos were donated by six companies from Anji county in Huzhou. The delivery marked the beginning of the three-year piano donation campaign launched by the local government.

More pianos will be donated to primary and middle schools and cultural centers in the Sichuan county to boost local cultural and education development, according to Jin Bin, Party chief of Luoshe town in Anji.

Chen Qiaohua, a cadre sent from Anji's Luoshe town to Xiaojin, said that most children in the Sichuan county are good at singing and dancing, but few have access to the piano.

The donation comes as part of Anji's efforts to strengthen cultural ties with Xiaojin and meet local residents' spiritual and cultural needs.

Anji has been paired with Xiaojin under the east-west cooperation program launched by the central government, which sees more prosperous provinces and municipalities in East China lend support to underdeveloped regions in the country.

Luoshe town is a manufacturing hub for pianos in the nation. Local officials are planning to replicate the town's success in Xiaojn by helping the county cultivate talents in piano making.
