3 Huzhou places recognized provincially for water conservancy

Three places in Huzhou were recently listed as provincial models for water conservancy in East China's Zhejiang province.

They were Yucun village in Anji county, Lishanyang in Deqing county, and Digang village in Nanxun district.

Yucun village

Situated in Tianhuangping town, Anji county, Yucun village is known as the birthplace of the concept that states that "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets".

Previously heavily polluted due to coal mining, Yucun has emerged as a hit rural tourism destination after shifting to its green development path.

In 2020, it completed the treatment on water bodies, covering a total area of about 3,000 square meters. The sewage treatment facility in the village has even been transformed into a scenic spot.

Lishanyang

Located in Zhongguan town, Deqing county, Lishanyang is composed of two small lakes, spanning a total area of 220 mu (14.6 hectares), and three rivers, measuring 4.1 kilometers in total length.

Starting from 2014, great efforts have been made to tackle water and soil erosion, as well as pollution caused by the direct discharge of sewage from pigsties in the area.

Digang village is situated in Hefu town, Nanxun district and has been transforming its rich water resources into economic gains.

The village is renowned for mulberry fish ponds, a special dike-pond model that integrates fish ponds with the breeding of mulberry silkworms. The model was listed among Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 2017.

Facilities themed on the local silk, fishery, and tea industries have been erected in the village to attract tourists.
