Changxing builds green transportation system
A green transportation system has already taken shape in Changxing county, Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province.
People from the county are encouraged to take low-carbon and environmentally friendly transportation means to travel.
Changxing launched its public shared e-bike program in 2019, with 1,500 e-bikes available at 198 stations. At present, the number of daily shared e-bike users in the county stands at about 4,000, with the total riding distance surpassing 26,000 kilometers.
This year, the local government plans to further expand the presence of e-bikes and increase the amount of service stations to 200, according to Ma Jingran, an official from the Changxing comprehensive administrative law enforcement bureau.
In addition to the launch of shared e-bikes, Changxing has extended the coverage of bus services to its rural areas.
Currently, there are more than 50 bus lines in operation in the county, with a total monthly mileage of more than 600,000 kilometers. All administrative villages within its jurisdictions are inter-connected by bus lines.
Replacing diesel or gas fueled public buses with pure electric ones has also played a big part in the county's drive to build a green transportations system.
Official statistics show there are 236 buses in Changxing, all of which are pure electric ones.
"By switching to electric buses, we can reduce carbon emissions by 66,000 metric tons per year, which is equivalent to the planting of 460 square kilometers of forest," said Jiang Tao, an official from the Changxing road and transport management center.
