A 180-meter-long dragon kite, the longest of its kind in the nation, was flown in Caijie village, Deqing county, Huzhou on Nov 1.

Measuring 60 kilograms in weight, the kite, which is composed of 100 scales, was made by Zhang Zhigang, a renowned kite artisan in Huzhou, and took nearly eight months to complete.

It took more than 100 people nearly three hours to get the huge kite into the air.

This successful flying of the kite came after three previously unsuccessful attempts made by Zhang in Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Xiamen.

The 77-year-old Zhang has been obsessed with kites since childhood.

In the 1980s, he learned kite-making skills from Fei Baolin, a famous crafts master in China and the representative of "Cao's Kite". Zhang then gained great fame in the kite industry.
