Huzhou in Zhejiang province has completed the construction of 223 "waste-free" city cells to date, more than the target of 200 set by the provincial government for this year.

The "waste-free" city cells refer to places like factories, industrial parks, villages, schools, homestays, and mines that minimize the impact of solid waste on the environment in a city.

Recently two companies from the city were listed among the first batch of Zhejiang "waste-free" factories.

Two technologies developed by Huzhou have been listed among the first batch of advanced applicable technologies for the construction of "waste-free" cities in the whole province.

In addition, 10 cases from the city have been designated models in the provincial campaign.

Huzhou aims to become a "waste-free" city by the end of 2023. A "waste-free" city is an advanced urban management concept aimed at minimizing the production of solid waste, as well as improving the recycling and safe disposal of waste in the city.

This year, local authorities plan to finish the construction of an additional 100 "waste-fee" city cells.
